Two More New Jersey Bus Accidents Result in Numerous Injuries

by admin September 06, 2018

Buses are an inexpensive and convenient method of transportation that many travelers may opt to use over the railways or their personal vehicles, especially in New Jersey which is known for its suburban sprawl. However, sometimes bus accidents occur, posing the risk of serious injuries on a large-scale. On Monday, August 13, 2018, a tour bus traveling from Washington D.C. to Newark, New Jersey struck a bridge overpass at Newark’s Penn Station around midnight.

The collision left the front of the bus almost unrecognizable. Startled passengers were awoken by shards of glass raining down onto them. About 50 injured passengers were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Many of those sustained intense facial bleeding from the broken glass.

Just two days prior to this incident, another bus accident occurred in East Brunswick, New Jersey. A school bus carrying approximately 42 passengers, both children and adults, from a picnic in Millstone, New Jersey, overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike, sending many of the passengers onboard to local hospitals. Fortunately, there weren’t any reported fatalities or serious injuries as a result of this bus accident, however, the cause of this accident was unknown.

Bus accidents are anything but uncommon in New Jersey. Recall the May 17, 2018, tragedy involving the fatal collision of a school bus and a dump truck that left ten-year-old student, and 51-year old teacher, dead. 38 students and seven adults were onboard at the time of the accident. Aside from the two fatalities, about 40 other passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe.
